Born and raised in a small Veena village in the Skatay Mountains, Winona was the daughter of a quiet herbalist, Winona was known as the chubby Vii even as such as a child. Often spending her time learning how to cook over learning how to hunt or train with weapons.Then came the Garleans, though her village was hidden, the Garleans were using magitek to mine the mountains for ceruleum and rare minerals. Their mining operation was too close to the village, yet the elders were too stubborn to relocate their village. It did not take long for the village to be discovered, the Garleans viewed the village as a nuisance and potential threat to their operation. What was meant to be a 'relocation' of the Viera of the village, ended in slaughter.Winona only survived the slaughter as her mother told her to run and never look back, and never saw her again.
Wandering the snow-covered peaks, she stumbles on an outpost of travelers and merchants caravaning along the mountains. One of the travelers, an older Doman woman named Akemi, took her in. The older woman taught Winona how to bake and cook, mainly for the moment rice cakes and sweet bread. Akemi did not question the blood on her attire or while the howling wind made her shake in fear. She handed her a kneading bowl to begin learning.As the caravan moved on, Winona grew up with them for a time. Akemi, silent but kind, keeping the growing Viera close to her. When their travels made their way to the Shroud, Winona was older and ready to separate from the group as by adulthood, Akemi had passed away of natural causes.Winona had quickly found herself working in the kitchen of a sassy older Elezen woman named 'Ms. Launet' and her large Roegadyn co-worker, silent as a mouse, nicknamed by their boss 'Peep'. For never making a noise himself, it was the only people Winona felt comfortable talking to and not shaking in fear when conversing.Winona now lives above the bakery in Gridania, housing traded for work in the bakery. A safe haven for the shy Viera, ever shy but quietly craving friendship and attention outside of the two people she works with in the bakery.As Winona was taught to read and write by the elderly woman of the caravan, it turned her writing into a hobby. In her freetime, Viera tends to sit and write romantic adventure novels. Enjoying her escape as she writes her imagination away, yet never finding love for herself.
